[Interview]WCS Season 2 Qualifiers: Get to know Probe
Firstly, why did you pick the name probe?
Probe: Originally my name was Rinehart. I changed to Probe because Rinehart looks terrible when you add tags to the front of it while Probe has a nice balance. I was trying to think of a protoss unit and decided that Probe would probably be the best. It is also funny when casters get confused when saying Probe's Probes.
What has your preparation been like in the lead up to the qualifier? Do you think your chances of advancing are good?
Probe: My preparation has been pretty bad. Due to playing Combat Arms, for two weeks and being busy for the last two weeks, I haven't played any sc2. But the community will tell you that my chances are very good because I play protoss . Personally I feel it just comes down to whether or not I am lucky with my games like last qualifier.
How has the recent patch affected your gameplay? In a recent interview, SKT Rain said that he feels the widow mine buff has made terran too strong, do you think this is the case?
Probe: I think so far I have played 2 games on the new patch against terrans. I have heard a bit about the new widow mines and have my own opinions about how good they will be. I think it makes PvT very hard to play as a protoss player. Playing a colo opening is annoying because you have to deal with scv pulls, and now playing a High Templar opening, my personal preference, is going to be extremely hard. We will have to see what builds come out of this and I am sure it will end up fine. I think blink builds will stop soon also as the maps will probably change more to favour terran defence. Terran would probably become really "op" soon.
What do you think is currently your best and worst match up?
Probe: My PvP would be my worst matchup. It is not that it is that hard, it is just getting to 2 base is a problem for me, and if I became better at this my win rate would probably go up. I don't know how my PvT and PvZ would be affected by the patch but they would be around the same.
Are you confident that you could beat PiG if you went up against him again, considering how the games at the SYF Summer Lan in February went? Are there any other players you would prefer to avoid or play?
Probe: The games at SYF LAN were not even that close. PiG is just too good and I don't think I will beat him for a while. But they were good learning experiences so hopefully sooner rather than later I can beat him haha. Some other players I would want to avoid would be Iaguz, KingKong, and Petraeus. Blysk, Pezz and Fighto are also really good Protoss players and I wouldn't want to face them. I really hope I get to play Fenner as he will be a really easy win.
sOs (or $O$) recently won $100,000 at IEM Katowice. What would you do with that kind of money if you were in his shoes?
Probe: Spend money on Combat arms, Hearthstone and then waste the money in some other ways haha. Then putting the left over money in the bank would probably be what I would do.
There is a lot of hype around you as an up and coming playing in the Oce scene. Do you think this could be the year where you really break out onto the pro scene, not only in Oce but perhaps internationally?
Probe: I am a pretty bad player that just got this hype because a good day, so I don't think I will be able to achieve much. But who knows, maybe it will be the #YearOfProbe in which ProbeAllKill(-1)'s the world.
What are your goals as a SC2 player? Where would you like to be by the end of this year realistically?
Probe: I wanna be the very best, that no one ever was. To dt is my real test, to protoss them is my cause.
There has been a lot of negativity around in the SC2 scene in general, but what do you think of the current state of the SC2 scene in Oce?
Probe: If I am doing well it really must be a dead game. Personally I really hate the negativity and don't like talking about it. I do think that globally sc2 is doing well.
And lastly, if you could be any starcraft unit, what would you be and why?
Probe: A broodwar unit, so that when people remember you they will only bring up how great you were and none of your faults :P
