Hello there BSG folk. BSG ClanLeague Season 1 is nearly over, and it's going well. Semi's are looking like they're gonna be good fun.
There has, however, been a few avoidable issues. Clans and players not being able to make alotted time slots. There are teams stacked with Gold and Silver players, but the Bronzies didn't get much of a crack. This has brought up the question; should the format be changed?
So let's bring it to a vote so that YOU, the BSG community, can decide the format you want. Some clan war options for you:
Pros: Tried and true, fast, easy on casters and admins, teams can be as big as they want.
Cons: Everyone doesn't get to play (potentially), Bo1 not always the better player wins.
Nation Wars Format
Pros: Bo3 a fairer contest, EVERY player in the team gets to play.
Cons: Takes longer, teams are small so players may miss out on a spot, managers have little control over who plays who.
Week Play Format
Pros: Every player plays, easy on players as they play when they want.
Cons: Admin nightmare, won't be able to be casted / streamed (except maybe finals), hard on team managers.
Happy to take suggestions for other formats, and also suggestions on modifications for current formats. For instance; if GSTL Format is chosen we will modify the rules that force the first player that goes out to be Bronze and perhaps even make managers bench players for a week if that certain player has won a certain amount of sets.
If GSTL or Nation Wars format are chosen, we will put out the dates and create another poll to see which nights are best for players to maximize attendance. If the Week Play format is chosen, then first of all thank Synchro for coming up with it, and there will be no other poll.
With the discontinuation of the individual Open, I think it would make a lot of sense to adopt the Nation War/Proleague format so more people have a chance to play. For a BSG league it doesn't really matter, but it also rewards teams with depth instead of those with a single good player who can all-kill (see MVP in GSTL). It also reduces the impact of smurfs, since the most they can win is one set (and, potentially, the ace match, depending on format).
A compromise for series length would be to have Bo1 for each set like Proleague. The size of the team is not necessarily diminished, since the line-up can be kept secret until the matches are played. Further, if it is, for example, a best-of-7, the ace player is determined on the spot after the first 6 matches have concluded.
imo week play format is too much of a nightmare to manage to be even considered. main concern now is that not everyone in the clan gets to play and that seems to be solved with a nation wars format. don't have to follow the rigid nation wars format, there is flexibility, so if people want you can make each game just a bo1 but 7 games instead so 7 people play and overall its still "fair" in the end, because of the number of games the results average out and the stronger clan should win. or you could make at least 3 of those games having to be played by bronzies, 1 by silver and 4 by any league if you want all the members to be involved. just some thoughts! keep up the great work guys
IMO keep the same format, however introduce some new rules to allow all team members to get some games in during the course of the tournament.
ie. Each team must have a representative of each Bronze, Silver and Gold, and if a player plays more than 2 games (3 or 4 etc) in a week then they cannot play again the next week (prevents repeat all-killers, see: Nuisance, me, etc =P ), coupled with that no player can be benched more than once a fortnight or every three weeks or something to that effect.
This, in effect, will ensure lineups are fluid and ever-changing, allowing more of the members to get some games.
Yes, GSTL Winner Stays on KOTH Format to me is the best, easiest to manager, requires least ammount of time for the BSG Players who are GENERALLY more causal then DMGM players, Amomgst easier to admin for us, with easier to get caster avliablity.
plus if in current state, doing bo7 in bo3's would take too much time i feel.
but yes with addition of a new rules in any format, REQUIRE a bronze player to start regardless, or soemthing.
The only problem I see with requiring a bronze to start or any other league-based restriction is that it places a possibly severe restriction on lineups for small teams. For example, according to the season 1 rosters, DoA were primarily Gold with only a single Bronze player, and Brothers Till Death only had Gold players.
Requiring players with winning streaks to be benched would be a better option I think.

Reason: Fixed tense mistake due to OliviA comment
For the nation war format, the 7 Bo3s can all start at the same time as they will have known their opponents beforehand, so the time taken can actually be shorter than the current GSTL format given that the maximum number of games per match for each series is 3, whereas in the current format the minimum number of games per match is 4 with an all-kill.
And we can still have 12 members per team, just that each week the manager has to choose 7 members out of the 12 to send out, and I guess that match timings can be more flexible? We could just give players a deadline to finish their games by, and get them to report to us when they are done, through B.net, email or PM on sc2sea.

Drop hacks, gotta watch out for dem Drop hacks.
I cant decide cause I think it would be fair to have the 2 clans field a team of 1 , 1 and 1 then have a random pick for the next 2 players. just my say..cant vote yet Maynarde XD sorry

I feel like (after some more thinking) that maybe the NW format would be better... You can have Bo5 series (4 normal series and an ace match) and ask for a roster for the first 4 games ahead of time. So you can enforce round 1 is bronze, round 2 is silver, round 3 is gold, and round 4 (and ace match) you can put out whoever you want.
For the finals you can then bump it up to a Bo7 where it's 2 of each div, with an ace match.
Leave it as it is, but do what the other guys said and make a rule for rotating the teams ( or at least order of play )
Also introduce some tougher penalties on NO SHOWS. I think the re-schdeuling got out of hand this season.
Also with the play days, leave them the same, that way EVERYONE should realise for season2 that Thursday/Friday 8AEST is their play time ( i think these days worked well ) with saturday being the back up day, but STRICTLY a back up day. AkA if you cant really compete on thursday/friday at 8AEST due to timezone differences, have an option to select saturday as your play day, to help cut down on Admins trying to find out whats going on, and to help weekly draws match up better.
Maybe even make BSGCL Seas.2 a little longer? To make point gathering/wins/losses more worthwhile. I think some clans/teams may have lost heart after week 2. A slightly longer season provides a stronger rythem, less do or die, and might even extend hope for those teams who might not do so well in the first 2-3 weeks.
ALthough i do realise that the above would also rely on how many teams signed up for BSGCL, Obviously.
I actaully agree Interdiction, maybe instead of 2 groups, 1 big group where everyone plays everyone else once before the finals come up. But yeah Maynarde, Edarus and I still have to organise it.
KOTH GSTL seems the best for me. Maybe the lowest ranked player of both teams play together for the first set? Maybe teams should have at least one bronze/silver player in the roster they align for every games.
KOTH is fine, but a rule that will enhance contribution from the rest of the team will make it feel more like a team effort. Even something as simple as "if you won n games in the last match in which you played a game, you can't play until the n-th game" will stop all-kills dominating the league result.
I think NW format would be much more awesome. You can have what nirvana suggested.
Bo7
Game 1: Bronze Vs Bronze
Game 2: Bronze Vs Bronze
Game 3: Silver Vs Silver
Game 4: Silver Vs Silver
Game 5: Gold Vs Gold
Game 6: Gold vs Gold
Game 7: Ace vs Ace
Also can
G1: B v B
G2: S v S
G3: G v G
G4: B v B
G5: S v S
G6: G v G
G7: Ace
All matches except the ace(unless 3-3 tie) would be played out. This would allows much better representation of the team.
If both teams have no bronze players, they could sub in the games to Gold vs Gold or something.
GSTL Allkill format may be preferred in the finals or something
only issues with makeing bvb, svs, gvg matches is with promotions. i have been bronze a long time so if i got promoted once a season started and still played other bronze who may be new to the game unfair. but teams may run out of memebers if to many get promoted if you make a bronze who is promoted to silver withing the league timeline play another silver.
Though i do like the idea of a rotational system, i never played even when i was avaiable as i thought it would hinder my team agasint other teams that were mostly gold. but a rotational system or even a case where each team submits the memebers for that match plus one and randomly someone gets removed. So you never know who on your team may be banned from playing that evening. That could be cool , as u dont know wheather it would be your ace player or not the tension.
Once the Season 2 thread goes up (it should have already lol) it will explain the rule changes which will help ensure full team involvement in the event - the end goal being the reduction of repeat all-kill series as well as ensuring players from all three leagues get games each week.
I'll chat to the other admins tonight about getting the thread up, I think Maynarde was going to handle it but i'll double check what the go is.
TL;DR - There have been some positive rule changes made to be announced in the thread when posted for Season 2, which has been finalized, but the post has gone AWOL. Will investigate.

Thanks for the input everyone We've decided to go ahead with the GSTL format as it clearly is the most popular. We are going to be a bit more lenient on play nights and have a couple rules changes to try and accommodate as many people as possible for Season 2.
