SSL Jan Pre-Thread / SSL Dec Post-Discussion Thread
Hey everyone!
Once again, thank you for making SSL Dec an awesome event! Looking forward to seeing all of you at the next SSL.
SSL Jan will tentatively be held on 29th January, Saturday. There will be quite a few major changes, and they are all up for discussion. Nothing is fixed now, not even the date. This is a pre-thread
Registration will be open 8th Jan, Sat
SSL -Patch 4.012- Jan
- (edited) Brackets have been extended to unlimited!
- (edited) The top 2 players from SSL Dec will be seeded in the round of 16.
- (edited) [ONLINE Qualifiers, Stage 1] Players will be split into 7 groups. Recognized players (top 8 placements in any recent SEA tournament) will be seeded and will be randomly split amongst the 7 groups first. The remaining players will then be randomly split amongst the 7 groups. Group stage is Round Robin and will run for a week to allow for as many matches as possible between players. It will be best of 3, maps to be decided. Top 2 of each group will advance to the round of 16
- (edited) [ONLINE Qualifiers, Stage 2] The top 2 seeds from SSL Dec will be split into the top and bottom arms. The 14 qualifiers from group stage will then be randomly split. This will be best of 3, double elimination and players will have set dates to complete their matches in order to advance. Time frame should be 2 weeks for completion, dates to be decided. Matches will be played till there is 2 players left in the Upper Bracket and 1 player left in the Lower Bracket.
i.e. ONLY the Upper Bracket Finals, Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals will be casted live for SSL. Gone are the tedious round of 16 matches. Players can rest and focus on their strategies for just 1-2 opponents and better games will result and spectators will have more action at a faster pace
- Raynor's Party will make a comeback as an official tournament! There will be 64 slots for an online qualifier, so 8 seperate Raynor's parties. The winner of each party will play live at SSL for prizes and internet glory!
- Roach range is reduced to 2
- Sentry force field is now researchable and cost 50 minerals, 100 gas and 110 build time. Researched at Twilight Council
- Stimpack research now requires Ghost Academy

Awww right i should be able to attend . I would have voted for the comic tourny but i knew about it too late . Im sure that there would be more ppl participating just that very few ppl knew about it. Like me Btw pls feedback the latest part of the story, need to make it better
oxy/rev shld be directly seeded into top 16 imo based on their past results
double elimation for the other top 14 or two single elimination tournies. a sole single elimiantion toruney might be too unforgiving. i mean ninpo/randy probably would make top16 but they met me and tendersteak in the ro32
i love that theres gonna be a tournament for raynors party haha

True true... perhaps the other way is to do with 7 buckets of players and the top 2 of each bucket gets into the top 16. SSL Dec top 2, as suggested, should be seeded.

Its still all up for discussion =)
I think the best way to do it is still via online group stages, where the top 2 of each group proceeds and the players would organize matches themselves(else they get walkover-ed). It's also more versatile as if you have <64 players you could adjust the size of the groups/number of people to proceed from each group and seed the top few players from previous SSLs accordingly.
For etc,
if there were 44 signups(including oxy&rev),
you could seed both of them and put the rest of the 42 into Groups of 6. So there would be 7 groups and top 2 from each group proceeds which means you'll end up with 14 players advancing... + oxy and rev = 16.
And if you have a 36 players.. just make 6 groups of 6 without seeding, etc
Might be a little more work but fairer and more flexible imo. you wont leave out those who sign up slightly later either...

I support MUSE opinion.
Online group stages will be better, just like world cup.
The top players with most achievements will be in different groups (so that in one group won't have all the top players).
Then the rest will just be "randomly place". Same format as World Cup. Then the top 2 will proceed to the round of 16.
So there's no need for double elimination in RO64 etc which might makes things too complicated.
Also, group stages are more flexible as we can arrange playing time with our opponents separately or beforehand.
To do a knockout system need a more specific number. But group stages, any number is possible.

blah, i went to google it, ghostcrawler is from the WOW balance team and protoss would get smashed standing still if they didn't have FF research done for certain maps

@ Mezza and SimplyTemaka: double gotcha! I'm trolling ^____^
edit: You play WoW Mezza and you don't know who Ghostcrawler is? He is only the lead designer for WoW =O You must be a Wrathbaby ^^
@ Progression/nGenJuicy: I need your email so I can include you in the crew debrief and feedback email I am working on pls. Email me at HDPhoenixx@gmail.com. Thanks!
@ GGMuse: Yes, great suggestion. That will most likely be the new direction I take with SSL and other tournaments =)
yeah i only started in wrath, i spent the time during vanilla and BC playing Guildwars instead, which was a much better PvP game, the most epic 8v8 games of guild vs guild matches was just too awesome. GW also spawned the arena system from which the WOW bought their arena system from. which is a poor poor imitation of the GuildWars system.
