I'm a bit disappointed with the inclusion of MMA and especially Polt. Now, I'm a huge fan of MMA (he is my favourite pro player) and I want him to be there, but I think if he is going to be in the tournament, it needs to be because he scored higher than MC over the season, not just as a default choice. Ideally, qualifiers should have all come from the qualifying tournaments. The BlizzCon spot should have gone to Sen, and the WCG spot should have gone to XiGua.
Their system is fine. If that's how they want to do it then good on them. The thing that annoys me is this Bo1 crap. Anyone can win, I don't want anyone to win. I want the best to win.

I don't know how you can say it's fairer. I'm not saying it's not fair. I don't think it's AS fair.
The spot was allocated to a tournament. First place at 3 tournaments went to the same guy, logically it should have gone to 2nd place in each of those (and failing those, third place). Pretty sure this happened kinda recently in this big event the community has moved on from.
I don't think it would have been too hard to organise - Sen and XiGua were just down the road for WCG anyway
As far as fair... the best players in the world are indisputably Koreans at the top of GSL. The qualifying events were selected (Blizzcon, MLG etc..) and if someone took one or more of those spots.. that spot was given to the next highest ranked player on GSL Rankings... you can see those rankings here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft...eague/Rankings
Why pick Koreans over the 2nd placed players in other tournaments?.. because Korean's are better (as much as it pains me to say it)... MMA and Polt are alot better than Xigua and sen.
Also, GOM flew all the players on Korea to play.. (if they weren't there already) so by replacing with Koreans they can save a bit on that expense..
I admit I was surprised at this too. However if from the beginning they stated it would be the next ranked GSL player to take the spot rather then the next ranked MLG/WCG player then it makes perfect sense and is completely fair.
I don't believe it was from the beginning, only after they decided to add MMA over sen. I can understand them adding MMA over sen because technically mvp could take the blizzcon spot, leaving a gsl ranking spot open for mma. Which means the only way they figure this is that nestea takes blizzcon spot. MVP takes the wcg spott and polt/mma take the two leftover GSL spots. Obviously, this isn't that fair for sen and xigua but if they took this standpoint then if polt and mma weren't included it wouldn't be fair to them. Ideally they would have had mma vs sen and polt vs xigua to determine the seed.
The way they went about it, by saying that polt was the wcg seed and mma is the blizzcon seed is stupid though.
I think it makes more sense that MVP take one of the spots he qualified with, and for his other spots to go to the next placed person... was it stated from the beginning that GSL people would have the extra spots, or did they make that up as they went along?

That is just my opinion on the topic
yeah fair opinion.. but the cup was for the first place finishes for selected events... Mvp qualified for his BlizzCon finish. Then the next top three GSL points finishers were invited (NesTea, MC and MMA)...
The only player that came close to qualifying that didn't - might have been xigua, but they stated that if someone doubled up on qualifying they would invited the next GSL ranked player... which means Polt got preference over xigua. And imo the best players in the world were invited.
Polt... ugh... I dislike that guys play so much. He shows just how good constantly being active with a mobile army can be at finding holes to counter and abuse positioning. The guy should probably be playing zerg lol. Ah well sc2 is a fast-paced game and we saw mma get punished that first game for being slightly too slow with his control.

Even then, who's to say sen isn't better than polt or likewise for xigua. Obviously they're less proven but Hapyro (even more unproven) beat nestea at MLG. I just think that the way they went about it was more for the benefits of the GSL, rewarding players for doing well there instead of the tournament that the seed is for. I would've been perfectly fine if they assumed MVP wins WCG, Nestea takes blizzcon and then Polt and MMA get the two GSL ranking spots (albeit it being slightly unfair) but afaik they just added the next two GSL ranking points regardless which I think is unfair. Although maybe it would be because maybe someone MVP eliminated in the ro8 or ro4 would've beaten xigua and got a spot, so perhaps this is the fairest way to go about it.
They still could've done it my way though and I think there would be a lot less controversy.
@PiG I actually like Polt for one reason. I remember way back in season 1 when he played MC in ro64. Tastosis were hyping MC, highest ladder points, first to 2000 points, coach pointed him out. Then I remember the mealopolis game where he just perma denies MC's 3rd with marauder drops and attacking the third at the same time. Killed like the 3rd 2 times, the main once and the nat once too. I really enjoyed that, destorying MC with better multitask. Apart from that though he's just another good terran.
