OP here, any questions feel free to shoot me a message
Whats up SC2 players of Brisbane,
Figured since I was the one organizing the tournament, I should probably jump into this thread :P. This is my first time organizing a tournament, we're going to try it this weekend and hopefully make it a regular thing (provided that we can get consistent numbers). What would you guys like to see for prize pool distribution? Im open to suggestions but will have to have values finalized by Wednesday night. I assume that you guys would want a Bo3 bracket and a Bo5 finals? Your feedback is how we will make the tournament run so let me know what you want .
Bracket length would be something to decide when you know how many people are coming. As for prize money, distributing $50 past 3rd place is tough so 30/15/5 or whatever is fine.
Have to say, $5 is super cheap for a tournament so i have to commend you on that! You did good son.

Hmmm, probably not for the first tournament as we plan on having some other games going on (LoL, hearthstone and CS:GO) and while we have access to really high end computers, they are somewhat limited. I'd love to get to the point where we have enough numbers to do just a sc2 tournament, not sure if that will happen tho. For this one at least well do Bo3 brackets and a Bo5 finals. In the future maybe well get in that best of 7

Thanks man! The IT club really wants to give away money to gamers, so as long as we have the numbers, we have no problem continuing these events

Hey! That's awesome, I for one really miss the somewhat regular competitions of the past, hopefully we can get some numbers in for this one .
For prize pool, I think lowest prize should at least cover entry. Other than that, not too big a deal. Format is right on however depending on time constraints perhaps a Swiss bracket or round robin groups into ro4 will allow for everyone to play at least a few games to make the tournament fun for everyone. However it does seem you're running on a relatively short time period so maybe the straight up single elimination is where you'll have to settle.
I'll definitely be there and am looking forward to it

Regarding this, will the games be running simultaneously or one after another?
Basically what time is the sc2 tournament, anywhere between 12 Saturday and 12 Sunday is a wide range.
We are trying to get the sc2 tournament all done on the Saturday, so hopefully it wont take up your entire weekend. (Were working on a revised total schedule). The games will be running simultaneously if we have a high volume of games to get through, if its a more manageable number we may try and have one or two running at once so that others can watch

The IT Club really wants to make this event successful, as a result, we will be offering a $50 door prize (selected by random draw) in addition to the $50 prize pool. Entry remains the same at $5. At this point, were trying to gauge numbers on how to make this event more regular, so the more people that show interest, the larger the prize pool will become and the more often we can host. Come show your support for Brisbane SC2!
Look forward to seeing everybody at the tournament! We will be located in level 5 of S block at the Gardens Point Campus. If your unsure of where to go, I'll swing by the food-court at 11:50 to see if there is anyone there (Ill be wearing an old LG-IM shirt so be on the lookout, I'll be very hard to miss).

Unfortunately the Uni computers wipe anything that a user has put on them when they are logged off (this sadly includes the replay files). I'd like to give a huge thank you to all of those that came out and played, I know that aspects that we can improve on and I would love to hear your feedback! The next step is going to be getting more players involved as well as streaming the games live. Thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcomed, what can we do better?!?!?

You beat me to it thank you for posting tho! Anything else you guys want to see? We plan on live streaming the next event as well for those that can't be there
A lot of people had no idea this was even being put on until someone found it hidden on reddit and mentioned it here, so we had about 4 days notice to try and get to the lan. Obviously you already realised this and mentioned in the future you were going to try and give us more notice - so hopefully this will improve attendance
One of the problems we had when the lan first started was we didn't have a set format coming into it - it was only after about 20 minutes of discussion that we decided on round robin. Obviously one of the biggest factors of this was the fact that only 6 people showed up, but coming into next lan there needs to be a set format (eg. Double Elimination Bo3 with Bo5 finals) so the games can start asap. Also making sure that everyone who can be playing at a set point in time are playing helps to make the days shorter, as with larger numbers there will obviously be longer days - which are possible to avoid with good adminning

The more notice part is easily fixed, the executive of the club sort of just went "hey we need a tournament this weekend, hey you play Starcraft, you should make a tournament for this weekend" Mad props for all of you that came out and with more notice we should easily get more participants. The format is another question entirely, this tournament being more of a trial event, we toyed with a few ideas and decided on a round robin the day of. The next tournament WILL be a Double elimination (Bo3 brackets, Bo5 finals), at least thats my intention at this point, as we'll be under much more of a time constraint with more players. Regarding the next tournament as well, it will probably span two days (depending on the number of players) and have online entrants. We still plan on making the lab that we used this weekend open for all those that want a LAN experience because lets face it, there is nothing like 980Mbps internet :P
In regards to making it a two day event - I would advise against that, as for many people taking a single day for a lan is a stretch sometimes, let alone two days. Also the second day will always have significantly less people than the first, as people who have been knocked out on the first day have nearly no reason to come to the second day apart from to talk more to people. So I would advise trying to fit it into a single day if possible

A big thing that stopped me coming was the notice bit, can't stress that enough. With that comes hand in hand just making sure you guys get the prep down and communicating it effectively. ie "Here is what you bring, this is the time, this is the place and here is how many people we are expecting for this". Some of the online tournament posts here are quite good templates. I know the expected participants bit can be quite a challenge and if you hold more of these in the future I'm sure you will get better at running them. Really look forward to seeing another one of these soon. Gives some of us baddies a chance to get a game against some of the top SEA players which is a really cool experience (ps USB for the replays). I would hope the more of these you hold the more participants you will get and the better prize pool you can offer making it potentially a little bit more worthwhile for a few extra people to make the trip down to Brisbane for a weekend.
Sorry for the delayed post, thank you, hope to see some more events from you guys soon.
