Hey guys, just got off 2 placement matches on the KR server, and it awesome, other than the fact that I wasn't able to read stuff as i can't read Taiwanese Mandarin.
Well the first match was with this Taiwanese guy and to be frank he wasn't very good, was an easy game.
However the next was with a Korean and maybe due to the lack of scouting, i was not handling it very well, but eventually came out on top, due to his blunder though, he went stalkers followed by collossus with zeals in response to my hydra ling, but he did not push enough until I was able to throw down a spire and get some mutas. Prolly got to work on handling my nerves while playing, could feel my heart beating so fast when my army melted under 3 collossi as i was trying to hold off till my spire was up.
Well, lag-wise, it was pretty smooth, my ping is about 220. I know it's not the best but its playable
For those who had tried playing on the KR server, I guess it's in everyones' interest that we would share our first experiences on this thread
My first ever game on KR/TW, the guy said something that I didn't understand and left the game within 20 seconds :P
Won the next 4 placements though! (only cause there weren't any ZvZ's). Achievements flying everywhere all over again, was good fun. The zerg queen's voice sounds cool on this client imo
The zerg queen's voice sounds cool on this client imo
wah wat? so even the voiceovers for zerg change? lol! Wonder what zerg with a korean accent would sound like
Good stuff mate! Thanks for sharing! Hope that it opens more challenges for you (other than the language diff) and makes you a better gamer! But then come back to SEA and show us how its done :P
one of my first placement matches way back when on the KR server
my opponent starts swearing and talking about his mouse being broken
I though it was a sneaky trick until I did what he said and sent a scouting worker and saw his 6 workers still sitting there not mining
He joked around then left
hi guys, ummm if i have a korean account can i connect to the taiwan server because the latency is unplayable or maybe i havent learnt to cope with lag ;p if anyone could answer it would be really helpful
Its probably just me being horrible but imo people are generally WAY better than what I'm used to. I've played mainly on EU though, so I dont really know the skill level of SEA.

The Korean and Taiwan server has been linked so essentially when you log in to korea sc2, you're on Korean/Taiwanese server.
the nubz on korea are just as nub as anywhere else.
Embarrassingly i actually went 4-1 in placements coz i was like herpa derp im just gonna make drones until 80 then attack coz theyre so bad (1st match the guy didnt attack for 15minutes, 2nd game i lost :P)
Once you get to the good players, they are very aggressive. i am diamond currently. I will hang in sc2sea channel also! Hopefully we can have some ppl to talk to while laddering - will be way better
How come everyone is buying accounts when they're not even the top of SEA... they're still going to be vsing people of their relative skill level (whether it be Bronze or even Masters..).

It's to experience different styles of play regardless of league, it's a good experience to play on different regions. Some ladders are harder than others and some people wanna get better faster.
There's no delusions of grandeur here. Not for me anyway.

You don't experience different "styles of play". It only takes all ins or solid macro to make it to a higher league regardless of what the opponent is doing. The only thing I've noticed so far from playing on KR is a better multi tasking capability (Some of the better players of SEA cannot attack and do several drops at once without letting them die if i have units in place to defend, whereas a lot of the korean players have the multitasking ability).
I went 5-0 in placements, 3 bronze and 2 golds and I didn't have to think once for the entire time.
I'm currently 13-3 in Plat, it's pretty ******* hard, actually, everyone just does giant all ins or super strong timing attacks. I don't think I'll be getting Masters on Korea unless I get a lot better.
FXOfrequency.299 and I'm always in FXOpen/TeamLiquid/Prime/sc2sea chat channels
@AZKziek I don't get all-in'd that much on SEA ladder, and I lose to strong timing attacks. What better place to practice against those strats than on TW/KR where they happen more often?
wow. everytime i stop playing new things seem to be happening. kr/tw merge?
i havent played on the kr server since november. i was GGnoRe on kr as well and i was in diamond. i still remember my first game on the kr server i played against a terran player who went for siege tanks into expo. i thought it would be an easy game considering it was my first game on the kr server but i got the shock of my life. i was forced to play a drawn out macro games (i ended up with 5 bases). i was even more surprised to find out my opponent was in the silver league. the rest of my placement games were rather easy though. (i suspect someone else must have been playing that silver player's account!)
i played my way from plat to diamond pretty quickly but i stopped playing soon after. World of Warcraft's new expansion was about to be released!

@frequency See you on the ladder brother
Their "timing attacks" are no stronger than that of a SEA player once you get to a high enough level (meaning if you don't get to a high enough level yourself, you're going to lose to the same thing on either server).
The only thing you will possibly improve on until a high level on KR is multitasking vs a Terran who likes to drop. Everything else is identical.
5 and 0 got straight into diamond but was suprised at how much higher the standard is relative to the NA server and such as my first placement was against a bronze player who did a proper build and did rather well.
any1 here have a problem when they went to buy the tw/kr account from, the store on this site? ive used my debit card through paypal alot to buy stuff and never had a problem but for some reasonn its telling me to use a dfiffrent debit/credit card ?
it has to be paypal because they are the site that processes the transaction not us! paypal does it and then tells sc2sea if the transaction is successful or not.
as for my first foray in Korea about a year ago, i remember being 17-0 then running into artosis. i won tho and he whined abit and called my unit composition imba (lol i still love him) but my streak ended at 21 and then i started getting matched up with fou / prime / ogs guys 24/7 and became 55ish % shortly after . even beat losira a few times and he already had a cool playing style back then
KR server ppl. all ins is a weird way... all the way up to master... then in the higher level all are pretty greedy and once in a while they all in... man..... always have to worry about all in from Korea players -_-
I dunno about you; you can feel the difference how they play on KR/TW. Even at lower tier, you know it's kinda odd. Very weird timing attacks and crazy all ins and weird cheese. And they're only sliver. (I know I'm not a good player). But it's interesting to play in this server as you would never know what they're up to.
I know for sure EU and NA servers are VERY different in types of games you get. It's everything, starting from timings, and up to the variety of tactics. Playing KR should feel like a completely different game compared to EU

cuz this server is dead. login at like 6PM GMT+8 and u will end up searching for 5 minutes.
I am a diamond on the NA server, is it worth buying a TW/KR account. I kind of want to buy one cause it would be cool to play against people on the KR server but will if really improve my sc2 game?
I am in Bronze
Many times I found my opponents surrendered after 30 seconds(rarely found on SEA server).
I think they checked if I was at a higher league on SC2Ranks or Battle.net and found I am in the same league - so they quit.
After around 2 weeks on KR/TW, I played 70 ladder games - lose 45 games and won 25 games so 36% win rate. Yes, always less than 1 minute searching for ladder partner.
I don't really know the exact different play style between SEA and TW/KR as I stopped playing on SEA after I got the TW account and I did not do many of ladder games on SEA(around 20 games). At least, I feel that I am on the same server of those SC2 Hall of Fame.
On a huge map, I was once with the Terran who only produced SCVs for 12 minutes and already own 7 CCs by the time I first attacked and I lose that game LOL. That was my first weird thing on 1v1.
Whenever I lose or win I watched my replay right after each game - although I won, I always found many things to improve from it.
Regardless of what server you are on, Good Luck and Have Fun. SC2 is "The Game" ^__^

Korea/Tw no doubt has the highest level of competition in the world. Whether you enjoy it or will improve from it will depend on your learning approach If you have a good thinking approach you will definitely improve alot because you keep getting exposed to better builds and better players and can constantly refine your play.
But before you even get an account make sure check your ping to see if the latency is acceptable for you.
My first experience on the TW/KR server was a protoss walled in with cannons trying to mass voids and carriers on one base... I expanded 3 times then a-moved into his 4 voids and 1 carrier.
Placement matches went very easily 5-0 and I got put into platinum. I was on a winning streak of about 20 and was thinking that this level of play was to be expected from platinum. But then.... A protoss on TDA did a double sg build with a lotta phoenixes which i successfully countered however....I then had 38 +2 attack stalkers at the front of my base with sentry support and in response...I had 0 units, only spores and drones. I was utterly caught off guard by this timing, and this became a reccuring theme. I am now diamond rank #2 with about 300 games played in total. All I can say for the people who wanna play on this server: Learn every single timing in the book from each of the races, 90% of games are revolved around a 2 base timing attack before the 12 minute mark. Oh...and in ZvZ never go hatch first, 75% of games are 6 pools

won all 5 placement matches am amazed at the skill level of korean lower levels had d=some fun 2s with clan mate myth we won all 5 got diamond. so far so good
This has been a very smooth transition for me. I pay for 25 down/ 3 up where I live in Los Angeles and there is no lag whatsoever. If anyone wants to play on the server, add me! alttotoro.458
my first experience was playing a platinum who was like a master on NA. Also some weird bug where I could not build a collosus.. are these TW versions legit? I have no idea why that happened.
Getting a sc2 key is like getting a car + license.
We give you the license (sc2sea) and you get the car from the manufacturer (or in this case, blizzard). Your license is valid and works perfectly (you can log in with your account perfectly and play as you have mentioned) and you're allowed to drive but you cant possible blame the license giver (aka us in this case) if your car is not working. And i'm 100% sure that you were either supply capped or did not make a robotics bay thats why you couldn't make the collosus. You're now basically accusing blizzard for providing you a defected copy of the game since you download the official client from their page and that is what runs the game, not the license.
Would appreciate if you do not say such rash /accusatory things in the future or if you wish to at least support it with evidence / replays.
I'm going to have a go at this Kr Guest Pass Sc2Sea is offering and if the latency isnt too bad then im going to purchase a Kr account. Can't wait! =D. It's just a different feeling playing with the top nation in sc2 in the world =)
i met top diamond guy buy play like master in sea , we play tvt in xelnaga and he go marine/tank with mutiprong drops very often and macro like a god, very impresive play by him ,and korea love their 1 base all in lol.

you can actually use the starter edition that they brought out a while back to play on the TW server. the way i accidentally did it was i went into the TW client and put in my b.net account info and since i dont have TW access on that account it brought up some writing i think i clicked yes (didn't know what i was doing because i cant read it) and then it brought up the box to enter a sc2 name and when i checked the account on B.net it said i have TW starter edition on the account. so that's probably a good way to check the latency as well.
I'm Diamond on NA/SEA and high Platinum on KR. I've played around 180~ games on KR so far and it's a whole different experience, everyone is just so much better. I found myself losing a lot of games early on because I was relying on a lot of stuff that just doesn't work against attentive and generally good players.
Playing on the Korean server has actually done more for my SC2 skill than most of my games played on NA and SEA--it's an absolute must to people who want to get better fast.
As far as pings go it really depends on your ISP to be honest, I've got Bigpond cable and I actually get the same ping to SEA as I do to KR, which are both better than my ping to NA--however using my brother's Optus cable he gets a fairly bad ping to Korea but gets good pings to SEA and NA.
it has to be paypal because they are the site that processes the transaction not us! paypal does it and then tells sc2sea if the transaction is successful or not.

Do you have a replay man?
I checked your sc2sea profile and youre apparently Masters? I personally hope you are not retarded enough to just 'not be able to make collosus' because you didnt robo or were capped...
In that case, replay us man. Or say 'woops' :P

Dooo dooo dodo!
i know masters/gms in sea that are only platnium on KR
Some of them just refuse to promote. I know quite a few of my friends(top 50 GM SEA) who got stucked at plat/diamond for like 2 weeks and only got promoted when they get like 75% win rate. Yeah it takes time to get promoted. Normally GM in SEA SHOULD be at least diamond in KR.
Well.. won the first 16 games without failure, now vsing high diamond but I must say KR/TW server produces the best players from all leagues.
Bronze players know builds and copy builds.
Silver players can build well till a certain point.
Gold players know how to expand but do builds like 3-gate robo --> expand / 1-1-1 -> expo instead of FE but they're surprisingly not bad compared to what I'll rate for NA / SEA gold.
Platinum players are like gold players but better.
Low diamond players are still like plat players but better.
Then high diamond players are like SEA's low-mid masters, really, they are that good. They do good builds but are surprisingly unorthodox. They like to produce more units than drone up? shrugs... or toss who does a 4-gate but decides not to all-in.
Well.. I've only met till there and have won so far, will update when I play again, but generally their leagues are harder than in SEA/NA.
* Is it just me or the players in KR/TW dislike saying gg / gl hf all that before/after games?
So now I'm starting to meet their low-mid masters players and I must say they're really good, they're as good as SEA high masters / GM :

Reason: Can now comment on masters players!
hmph i got kr ladder from my friend, would buying the TW version help the delay i get like 3 seconds, i have 10mb/s download speed which i think seems to be normal but my upload is at 0.84 so could someone help me out, is it my download or upload speed ;O

You need to do a pingtest to that server. Your download and upload speed has nothing to do with your latency. sc2 takes a miniscule amount of bandwidth.
It's just how long the information takes to get from A to B. This depends on how your ISP routes to reach certain areas around the world. Optus has a notoriously bad connection to anywhere in Asia as it has to route through the US to reach there so if you're in Australia that may be your problem.
* Is it just me or the players in KR/TW dislike saying gg / gl hf all that before/after games?
Most don't gg (at the end of the game) unless you gg (glhf too complicated) at the start of the game.
Oh but terran used to say 'gg poor zerg sad' whenever I got a ZvT on xel naga haha
I would think it would need help your delay. If you wanna be 100% sure u can download the TW starter edition and test the lag.
Why didnt I think of this o.O going to get started on that straight away, would love to get some KR action!!! Masters here, oh dear god please let me get at least platinum >.<
My first experience with the KR server was vs some platinum Terran players. They didn't do amazing builds, but my god, their micro was insane. I've never seen better stutter micro.
Why didnt I think of this o.O going to get started on that straight away, would love to get some KR action!!! Masters here, oh dear god please let me get at least platinum >.<
You will get diamond easy, just don't play greedy until you are comfortable - you will be punished otherwise
Sounds good starter edition has started downloading now so sometime soon I will be able to test the latency in game and then if its decent will get a full version should be fun :P
And thanks for the advice, gotta have the edge in at least one thing :P
Just played my 5 placement matches, they play so differently! I won 5/5 of my matches but was definitely amazed at their multi tasking of terrans with drop play etc, not the smartest decision making from what ive seen so far tho!
But anyway the real point of this was that I feel lonely having no one on my friends list to hit me up kez.446
I'm only a Silver/Gold level player at the moment but I decided to buy a KR account because I had some spending money and I believe in throwing myself in the deep end to flail around until I can swim. (True story, did that once when I was a little kid and almost drowned.) I won 3 out of 5 placements and got Silver so I was glad that I atleast didn't have to fight my way out of bronze again. I noticed that if anyone types "gg" it is usually at the beginning of the game and not the end. After having a terran swear at me in Korean and rage quit when my overlords spotted his drop and I stopped it with mutas as well as meeting a few friendly Koreans who vigorously typed many many messages through the game I took my thus far very basic knowledge of Korean and hacked together this basic phrase to type ingame whenever being bombarded with messages I can't read. "나는 외국인... 초보 한국 언어" I am still not 100% sure if I'm saying it right, but they seem to get the picture and stop talking when I type that. Overall I have really enjoyed playing on the ladder and eagerly await my promotion into higher leagues as I train.

Man, I am pumped! Wish I didn't get promoted to plat immediately, it's more fun to work my way up. TW/KR doesn't trash talk or start raging like they do on NA. Guess that's because I use an english name and they don't speak english.
But yeah, even Bronze and Silver players are aggressive and know some builds. It's not like NA where they're passive all the way through platinum and I could just expand 4 times before making a rax/gate/pool. These players actually scout and check you out.
For example, this replay is a TvT, the guy is platinum. I went CC first and he started tripping out looking for a proxy rax XD I may have angered him, but who knows. You guys be the judge.
I see myself spending a lot of time on TW/KR
Thanks for this service Nirvana. Would've been difficult to get a key otherwise.
The level of play seems to be slightly higher, am high diamond on SEA, mid plat on KR (probably because not many games played). Was placed straight into plat.
Apart from the gameplay differences, I got a huge confidence boost playing on the KR server. I didn't have to deal with any BM at all. There were no menus to distract me, no custom games that took my interest (mostly because I didn't know the language). There was only goal of hitting the "find match" button and focusing 100% on playing my best. It's also given me a much more aggressive playstyle.
It's definitely worth playing on the KR server, even for a short amount of time. Even though I only managed to get to ~20 wins on the server before time ran out (accidentally left the client open :/), I'll definitely be picking up a full copy shortly.
Oh, and all the units sound infinitely more bad-ass in the TW version than the SEA (English) version. TW HTs don't take shit from anyone.
Most of the people I get will say gl hf gg at the start and gg when they lose. I am plat on SEA/NA (i should be diamond but i haven't ground the ladder enough :P) and I can tell you now that the plats on KR are much, MUCH more difficult. I haven't lost to a plat player on NA and SEA for a few weeks now, but I struggle to keep a 50% vs KR plat players just because their all-ins are sooo much stronger. Also, they can actually use forcefields XD

I'm looking forward to trying out the KR server as soon as I get paid. Thanks for the stories, I'm excited to play in a ladder with less BM (or at least, less BM that I can understand ).
I really enjoyed my time on the KR server through a free trial. I am gold on SEA and plat on NA, and got placed into Gold after going 4 out of 5 (and losing to the only other guy in the sc2sea channel, damn you Oak!!).
i found it really rewarding to just go on there, know no-one and just play. was really easy because you didnt get distracted chatting in different channels (damn you Clanless), or chatting to mates. you are on there to play, and you do.
I saw more insane stuff in that 7 hour trial than i have anywhere else. I am sure that some of the strats being used are used in leagues above diamond, but i had never had plats or diamonds fron SEA/NA do what these golds were doing to me. like hellion marine drops in early game tvt, and 4 gate dts, just always these mad builds.
Eventualyl i got to chatting with some of the guys after the game, their english was not so great, but between google translate we got there - and it was rewarding because we both loved starcraft 2, and wanted to play heaps more. the language barrier wasnt as big as i thought, becuase we had a common language - starcraft 2.
Also, because there are no audio clues, it makes you focus onthe visual play moer and not rely on audio clues to get you through. i cant tell you how many times my 8 rax were supply blocked, and i noticed when coming back to the SEA server ig ot supply blocked a whole lot less, probably because it was something i had to focus on over there.
Do i think it is worth spending the money if you could use it on somethign else? no. But if you have the cash, and can clear your bonus pool on two servers already, why not go for a third bonus pool?
it was actually really fun, and if a chance comes up to get a free 7 hour trial, do it.

my first experience in KR was great, the players here are so good!
first ever placement was a chinese who just turtled for 10+ minutes off a FFE and just 2 sg mass void rays. i didn't scout it in time and there were like 10+ then i just massed mutas and queens, start spreading creep all over, and while void rays were in the middle of the map, i just ling run by him, his wall wasn't very good.
the first ever korean (or guy who has name in hangeul) i played was terran, did a 2 base marine/tank timing that almost killed me. I countered with mass lings (like i watched stephano do once and which worked!) and i won. the first korean i was matched up with and i won! such a great feeling... then i lost a lot afterwards as i got matched with really good players...
I play on KR/TW right now as my main server, i don't play in SEA/NA i'm currently saving up for a full box (played on it via prepaid before) and i'm looking for practice partners or groups over there and i'm really motivated right now to get better, good practice would be great. i don't losing, as long as i'm learning what channels do you guys hang out in btw
TW/KR, is awsome, from bronze to GM, they´re level is higher and they know how to micro on lower leagues, (In other servers they A+click until diamond).
did 3/2 on the qualifiers.
i got my account quite a long time ago, and although i went 5-0 on placements, you can really tell the difference between the servers. The games there are good
The first thing I did on the KR/TW server was attempt to hax into the Incredible Miracle chat. I found Nestea but it wasn't him actually, just a fan boy. Exciting stuff the korean server
First thing I did when I got my KR account was practice cheeses (with tournament play in mind). So I went like 3-2 in placements and ended up in bronze. Have been slowly climbing up to gold where I'm at on other servers. I can't rep Volition, but he has said it perfectly.
One of the biggest differences in bronze and silver is that players will actually attack you. On SEA I remember it was common for no attacks to happen for the entire first 15 minutes of the game at low levels. It makes it into more of a battle, which I really enjoy
Hehe. I got my KR account last week. Won 5/5 placements and placed into platinum. Now I am getting THRASHED by the plat players there - they are so much better than plat players I've played on SEA/NA (I am plat NA and SEA). I've found that even in these lower leagues, they play a lot more aggressive than the other servers - they can actually micro and harass effectively, which gives a good challenge. I'll probs get demoted to gold at this rate, but at least it will help me step up my game! :-)
Hi Guys! This is my first sc2sea post. About me: Im really bad at SC2( still in bronze )I never had the time to really learn SC2 but I am curious to know how different the servers are from each other. I got the KR/TW client out of curiosity. I also have SEA/NA and EU clients. Based on difficulty here is my take:
Lost a placement due to a dc (devastating!) but I'm playing plats in gold now and I love training on Kr/Tw
the different server means no ladder anxiety and I take my time watching replays and 'making adjustments' trying new stuff etc, it's awesome!
Played a fair bit since I got it and managed to get up to rank 1 diamond, not sure my skill level is quite there tbh as my MMR is still stabilising, I think right now I'm mid diamond but still not close to masters on KR, still got a lot of improving to do.
I've definitely noticed each league is a lot stronger than NA/SEA, the micro especially is a lot better even at gold-plat, but they still make the same bad decisions that other servers do. Playing a lot of diamonds now though and they are definitely at the skill level of high master even low GM on SEA. Hoping to hit masters in a month or two .
Thanks Nirvana for providing a very detailed and helpful guide .
Will try to categorize my experience with barely a week of play at TW/KR server
Players Level: Like all would agree, standard is just higher in every league i guess.
Attitude: Lesser BM? lol .. Or maybe they type in Korean and I just don't know. SEA for me the BM level is quite high.. haha
Players search: Definitely lot more players to play with. At SEA, "hey, It's you again"
Latency: Pretty good for me and stable compared to at SEA.
Procedures in getting an account on tw/KR: Unless you can't read english, this is as easy as it gets and with Nirvana around, it is as fast as it can get. Just ready your client.
Possible drawbacks: Slightly expensive than the SEA version. Language barrier. And you will still meet unfriendly people like this. It's a replay

Last week i tanked my MMR from Diamond to Bronze in TW/KR and i have been playing only reactionary games on Korea doing certain builds and going robo nearly every game and just playing and reacting to what i've scouted... All i can say is i have honestly never had as much fun as i'm doing now.
I can feel ahead i know i'm playing better and even sometimes i can lose... i just got back into Diamond today but i am going to attempt to get to masters. Playing reactively... is so fun! I am so glad i'm no longer a slave to a build.
As a BSG player I can confirm at lower leagues it isn't that different in terms of skill level, however they tend to be more aggressive than other servers. However it's probably harder to get promoted? I'm still in Bronze and I've won like.. 6-7 games straight or something and beating golds. ==
Latency wise, that depends on your net actually. Mine's doing really well in KR, I get about the same ping as I do on SEA.

I've found NA harder at times because I've gotten used to how well koreans understand the game. Its easier to read what they're doing since it usually is pretty standard/makes sense unlike NA where you'll hit the occasional player that doesn't really know how to do things efficiently.
Overall though even though i find kr more comfortable its still much harder due to how much better their mechanics/ understanding of the game are.
