SC2 ONLINE - Your home site for all things OSC + Starcraft!
Introducing SC2 ONLINE - Home of the OSC League
- This announcement is an invitation to all sc2sea and osc regulars to join us in our soft launch, ahead of 2016 main release.
http://sc2online.com/
The OSC League has had a massive year in 2015, despite what was a transitional year for SC2 with LOTV Beta running for ~9 months, which limited our tournament potential. Despite this, we are going to achieve our target of $50000 in prizes given out to players! All thanks to the dedicated team, our awesome partnered tournaments and passionate sponsors.
As we move forward into 2016, we are aiming for $75-100,000 given out to players! A key step to this expansion, is having a central location where all players can go to find information about OSC events, rankings, bounties, rewards, news, etc. Additionally it needs a name reflective of our goals, and inviting to all. Thus we've gone with SC2 Online, which reflects our domain of online tournaments!
Big thanks to Michael Ziersch + Tim DrennoC Conner, who have put in a lot of work to design and code the site, working with Maynarde + myself to translate our ideas into reality.
Please keep in mind, this is a soft launch, there is still a lot of work to be done, formatting, information to be added, etc.
A community Forum Page, where all OSC players and fans can hang out, discussion topics, chat, etc.
Increased Sponsor visibility and dedicated pages, to promote those who help out our league and players.
Expansion of the OSC team in all departments, management, web team, news. As well as SC2 Online moderators.
SC2 Online Weekly Community Open
As part of our expansion, we will be hosting a weekly tournament for all SC2 Online forum members!
Prizepool will start at $50 USD with other bonuses possibly included.
This tournament will give out OSC points.
At this stage we are looking at Sunday afternoon evenings AEDT/KST timezone, which would be Saturday nights NA.
Why not do this on SC2SEA/What Does this mean for SC2SEA?
Originally i had hoped to continue to keep SC2SEA as the home site of the OSC League. I have been pushing for increased forum presentation, better presentation of news, and an OSC Portal to be included. While this was generally agreed upon by all, there was no progress, largely due to the time/money required needed to be invested/and lack of active site leadership. I hold no hard feeling about this, it is just time to move forward.
Another reason i feel why an OSC site should be hosted separately, is while sc2sea is a great community, the name sc2sea in itself is a little off-putting/misleading to the global playerbase, and outdated.
It doesn't reflect the server players go to play, the OSC League, or indeed ANZ (the biggest % of the regions playerbase) in name. It was at it's peak when SC2 was strong in the actual SEA nations, when RedArchon, Nirvana, Revenant, iceiceice, Oxygen, Roz, Yekke, ProAnnn, Aaron, etc were amongst the regions best, but since then ANZ has certainly overtaken in numbers, and quite possibly skill overall.
As a result i will be stepping down from my role as tournament and stream admin at the end of 2015. I won't be investing any more of my money/time into creating new news content or tournaments here. Obviously i'll need to dedicate those resources towards growing the OSC League, and the oppurtunites it shall bring for not only SEA players, and our other regions players. I think myself and the OSC team can do greater work/good for the region through our new site. As i said, i bear no ill feelings, it's been a fantastic 5 years, i've made lasting friendships through this site, and achieved some great things. I'll have memories to last a lifetime. But it's now time for me to make new memories, and create new achievements, goals and opportunities for SC2. I hope you will join me.
As for the future of sc2sea, i'll still be sticking around as a casual member, i hope it can be reinvigorated and succeed! Perhaps try and build it more into a clan site. I don't know, it will be up for the leadership, and community to decide. GLHF.

So uh... I personally like the direction this site is headed in... but is there not going to be any clan section/support?
Clans wont be our focus, but we do want to involve the community, so will look at a way to implement some clan content, that may just dedicated threads for each clan, in addition to looking for clan info section, or it could develop into something more i'm unsure. Our focus will be getting players to play in tournaments, not clan wars though, so priority must be placed on that.
So is this just meant to be your site for promoting OSC stuff?
If so, what happens to events like SEAcraft which were a community event here before they added OSC points. Will they remain here and you will just repost the information like with other events (ESL stuff, etc) or are you taking them with you?
What's the need for chatbox/forum features if you're not a community focused site? It looks like a news portal, but those features feel like they're just designed to drag people away from here?
It's sad that you won't be promoting OSC events on here, and I hope it doesn't affect viewership/signups if people have to remember to check another site to find them...

It is a home page for the OSC League. Additionally we will publish news, and original content. There is a forums section for people to interact, comment on news, tournaments, music, etc. Chatbox for quick interaction. Will look at adding some other fun stuff, maybe arcade games.
If you want to play starcraft, and earn rewards, SC2 Online will be one of, if not the best place to go!

It's up to Philospher if he wants to host the main signup page here, or run on SC2 Online. Or run several, sc2sea, TL, sc2online.
We will be providing him with a dedicated SEAcraft sub forum, where he can host hall of fame/results, news, and tournament signup threads, etc. As well as having SEAcraft information on our homepage in partnered tournaments.
There is no requirement for event threads to be hosted on SC2 Online, we'll just link them on our calender for all to see/follow signup links.

Chatbox for quick interaction. Will look at adding some other fun stuff, maybe arcade games. We do want to build a community where all SC2 players can go, especially from our home regions, SEA, NA + China. Dragging people from sc2sea is not our goal, but may happen. It's not about building a new SEA community, it's about an OSC/SC2 community.

I'll link every OSC event on the sc2sea calender, as i do already. A lot of events are hosted offsite as it is.
Clans wont be our focus, but we do want to involve the community

Why not integrate some clan features and let the clan scene grow on the site, and bring in some NA/EU/CN etc clans too? We/you were recently pushing the idea of NA-SEA clan events, this is the platform that's supposed to strengthen the relationship between the "scenes" even more.. perfect opportunity to let the community develop in the form of clans imo.
EDIT: A good start point would not only be to give us clan leaders a space similar to the house clans here to advertise/display our clans, but perhaps bring in more of the closer clans like MirG to get the ball rolling. Billy also suggested a clan war/osc pts system, which would further increase the interest in this.

I'm happy to include a clans section on the forums, and give clans their own private sub forums.
I think clans > practice > tournaments > team is a good pathway. More sc2 people around the forum section, and following OSC is a good thing to.
Is there a way to expand the calendar to a monthly view? Or does it list all of the tournaments once they have been added into the system/do you not put them on too far in advance?

Having a monthly option, or see all events would be a good idea!
Atm, having any more than 4 events up at once messes up the layout of the page. I'll bring it up with our web team. Thanks
