As a BSG player myself, I've noticed that the BSG scene in general is kind of lacking in substance. Whilst the GPD scene features several tournaments, the BSG scene is left with a bi-weekly tournament that is often comfortably won by a couple of ex-diamond gold players such as myself. Thus, to give other BSG players an opportunity to get more involved in the scene, I propose the following:
IDEA ONE: A KING OF THE HILL TOURNAMENT!
So essentially, the idea is that the winner of the next BSG tournament will become the 'King of the Hill', and will not be allowed to participate in the next BSG tournament. The winner of the next BSG tournament gets the added privilege of 'challenging' the current 'King' to a BO5 series, where if he/she wins, he/she becomes the new 'King' and the loser has to win another BSG to earn the right to challenge. It can run once every two weeks and can happen on Sunday, the day after the BSG tournament. If the current 'King' gets promoted to Platinum, he/she loses the position.
Positives
- A supplementary tournament, which will give the BSG scene some more life
- More incentive to play in a BSG, which could improve participation numbers
- More opportunities for other players to win the BSG
- Another competitive experience for BSG players
- Doesn't really need a prize or casting, it's just for pride!
Negatives
- It is possible that 2 players could just alternately win the BSG Opens, so it could fail to deliver on the whole 'more player involvement' idea
- Another thing to organize, and scheduling issues might occur between the two players involved
IDEA TWO: A 'FUN' MONTHLY TOURNAMENT
A tournament similar to the BSG, except not as competitive, each round has a theme or rule that makes games as creative as possible, a possible format is:
RO16- TvT only SCV's and Medivacs
RO8- ZvZ units must stay on creep
RO4- PvP only robotics facility units
Final- RvR cheese only
Positives
- A 'fun' supplementary tournament, which appeals to BSG players who aren't hyper competitive
- Lets us show off our 'creative' sides in games, games will be more interesting to watch
- More opportunities for BSG players to play in tournaments
- Lets players who aren't necessarily the most skilled in terms of standard play win!
Negatives
- Probably requires a lot of community involvement for maximum fun
- Another thing to organize, could require casting
These are both 'infant' ideas that probably need a lot more substance before they become viable, but I feel like the BSG scene needs a 'kick' for when LOTV comes out
Regards,
HealZ

If SouL 99-0 Azure, and SouL 2-1 HealZ
Because 99>2 and 1>0 Therefore HealZ > Azure
I forgot I didn't respond to this but it is kinda a cool little thing. Just not sure how many active BSG's there are they seem to improve and get promoted or suffer from the coming and going disease.
The regular BSG events are enough to scratch the competitive itch for us casual BSGs - if there is to be an additional BSG event, let it be completely different in every way.
I'd definitely agree with it being something more along the lines of fun and quirky themes, though perhaps not on a per-round basis. I'd suggest adopting a 'theme per event' instead so that folks don't miss out on the fun.
Another idea is having a selection of themes, randomly assigned to each player. Obviously this could potentially result in some very silly games.
Or even using Husky's Imba League map in the arcade to set up silly contests.
A round robin format (in either Bo1 or Bo3 depending on numbers) might be suitable to spread the madness around - the idea being that everyone gets an equal amount of games in.
For a secondary BSG event, I feel it'd be nice to have something where the fun is in getting in a bunch of silly games happening, and winning's just a nice bonus
Just bouncing ideas around to see what sticks
