It's been so long since I blogged here! Today's one is just going to be real short, and more of a request for feedback than a fully-fledged blog.
The other week I had the pleasure of attending the WCS ro32 Premier in Cologne as an Expert and Analyst. It was an amazing experience for me to experience the show from the other side of the table! Getting to see these players up close and talk to them when not being focused on my own play for once was really cool I was able to... [Read More]
Recently several players have approached me asking about issues with them raging at the game, playing worse than usual, going on tilt for long periods and in general having trouble progressing and finding where to improve. I myself had a horrible ladder session yesterday on stream where I went through some of these same symptoms. I thought I'd grab a few of my responses to my students and throw them together into a mini article. Hopefully this will help some of you with your progression as a... [Read More]
It's been a busy 2-months since I got back from Europe. I've attended PAX, won the ACL online Series, two Masters Cups, a SEACraft Cup and the SLCN/SYF Dominion Cup!
I've also been streaming a lot and have seen my viewer-base climbing very quickly where 250+ viewers has become an everyday occurence! I've been consistently putting up highlights of cool micro and amusing/funny moments from the stream onto my Youtube each day so people who miss... [Read More]
My last blog explained the nostalgic and reflective experience of packing up my home to rent to strangers while I'm abroad training and competing in Europe for 4 months. We spoke about how I've changed in the last few years in that house, got into SC2 and grew into who I am today. I meant to post this 2nd part weeks ago, but with so many events going on and currently prioritising my practice it kinda got lost, but better late than never!
This is part 1 of a 3-part blog series about leaving home and coming to Europe to compete for a full season
. So I'm sitting here in the mYi house at my computer in the gaming room. We've just finished dinner and everyone is chilling out. Dot's sitting next to me flicking through twitter on her phone whilst waiting for a ladder game to que up. Botvinnik and Hobbit are watching streams behind me, Pengwin is watching the World Cup whilst playing 2v2s and Lilbow is playing CS. After less... [Read More]
A month or so ago one night as I was drifting to sleep the thought occurred to me that I crush Terran. This was an odd thought because I had been practicing almost purely ZvP for my Challenger match, and I felt pretty sloppy with my muta-lingbane. However mech was the craze and all over ladder I was facing it in 90% of my games. It felt like I almost never lost games, even when experimenting with mass mutas, I could normally win by forcing heavy Thors and... [Read More]
A few weeks ago I sat down to write a blog about IEM Singapore where I got eliminated 0-2 to Squirtle and 1-2 to Targa in the Open bracket on Day 1. When I tried to write about the trip and the day-to-day experiences it all seemed very dull. So instead I wrote this.
Defeat
Defeat isn't a sharp pain. Defeat isn't focused. Defeat isn't a slow and dreary pulling. Defeat isn't running isn't a hump in the road.
Defeat is a deafening thunder strike that rips us wholly from all that is... [Read More]
I decided to use technology and make a video blog for once! I just explain what eSports stuff I've been up to over the last month and then dive into analysing a see-saw ZvT vs Iaguz from ACL Sydney.
Hopefully the analysis gives some good insights into how you should structure muta-ling runbys, counters and harass when behind against a terran opponent and unable to afford a Hive-transition.
I'll be aiming for another vlog in the week or two before IEM... [Read More]
The middle of this year has been very, very busy for me. In June I was lucky enough to go to Dreamhack Summer and had one hell of an experience which I blogged about previously here: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=420250. After I got home from Sweden I had a series of online tournaments such as the WCS NA qualifiers. This involved two whole weeks of adjusting my sleep schedule to sleep at 8pm and wake up at 4am every morning. Then, in the span of ten days, I headed to... [Read More]
Just wanted to write a quick brag blog! Some people may remember the first blog in a series from about 18 months ago titled "Path to Korean GM" (http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=309898) which was all about me taking my training, including exercise and balanced lifestyle, a lot more seriously.
In the time in-between I've been right at the top of masters almost permanently, and practically built a mental block for each time GM came out I'd go on horrible losing... [Read More]
I was supposed to put this up sooner but I’ve been tremendously busy ever since coming home. I was going to give myself a one week break but upon seeing what July had in store for me I gave myself 3 days to rest instead. Beware: this is rather wordy. Maybe read it in parts…
Hi guys, this is a recap of my experience at DreamHack Summer 2013.
The lead-up to this tournament was the best I've ever had, I was able to train harder and longer, put all my experience to good use and focus... [Read More]
This blog is a shoutout to CM Storm for their Quick Fire Pro keyboard with Brown Switches!
I only switched to the Quick Fire Pro with Brown Switches a month before going to DreamHack. I was hesitant initially as I didn't want to screw up my practice schedule by having to get used to a new keyboard. However within a few games I already forgot I was using a new keyboard and my play felt faster and smoother on the feather-light keys. This was one of the rare cases of a new piece of gear... This blog is about what being a Starcraft II progamer outside of Korea (Australia for me) means right now, and the challenges we face ahead. This blog is written in the context of the weekend I just had at ACL Brisbane. This was the first big event for HotS (in Australia) and kicked off the SEA SCII season. This was written before the WCS NA Qualifier but just got around to posting it.
Competition, Exposure and Personality
Right now Starcraft is in a very scary place. HotS is... [Read More]
This event was such a blast to attend! I got into Melbourne earlier in the day and was super excited when I wandered over to Fed Square and was reminded just how awesome this venue was. Right in the heart of Melbourne, surrounded by Museums, Galleries, a historic train station and the stage itself actually in a square that is one of Melbourne's key social meeting places. This is as mainstream, public and accessible a venue as one can hope for and I was so psyched as I stood there watching the... [Read More]
Edit: bah posted on Dot's account. This is my (PiG) blog! Nirvana please change ownership when you see this :s
Video is public now.
So the beta went down and I've been pretty bored. Decided to practice my marine micro.
I finally had time to get into Natural Selection 2. It's a bloody amazing game! The only multiplayer RTS-FPS hybrid that actually kicks ass (or the only one? :P). It's incredibly competitive and is so multifaceted that for a competitive guy like me... [Read More]
I recently started following a paleo diet, to some degree. I've had people telling me about the "caveman diet" for a long time and urging me to try it out. After hearing more about it than usual in the last few months, including pro sc2 player Sheth was swapping to it and having great success (http://www.teamliquidpro.com/news/20...eight-and-pain) I decided to have a go myself. After all, I love eating meat, more of it couldn't be bad right?
The diet itself can be read about here:... [Read More]
w00t I got a new capture card! Here's a video of me unboxing it and testing out the changes in recording qualities. Dot edited this video so nicely check out the last minute for her sexy camera work :P
I'm completely beat after streaming 10am-1am tonight and am still live as I write this blog. I'm happy that I've been getting a lot of high-masters students so coaching has been particularly challenging and interesting. Also I've swapped to HoTS mostly so that's been a fresh change!
Just wanted to share a review I did of the P2532N Notebook that Gigabyte provided me with.
Dot did some sick camera work on this so I'm really happy with how pro she made the VoD look. Much better than the 360p webcam recording I would have done on my own!
I'm currently learning how to use FRAPS so will be throwing some SC2 tutorials up on youtube in the coming weeks!
So since I started progaming fulltime I've gained ~8kg. This is just a guess as I can't even remember how much i weighed before, but basically, I've put on a bunch of weight.
I'm sure this is a situation many of us who choose gaming as our recreation face on a daily basis. Especially those of us whom have a penchant to eat entire jars of nutella, with a spoon, in a single marathon session of Firefly.
So I'm kind of dreading the day I go to a LAN and instead of people saying "oh... [Read More]
Before I signed with Tt I never used a mousepad. I just didn't see the need! I play at home on a polished-wood table (not glazed) that I thought was an ideal gaming surface. Whilst I've played games semi-competitively for almost 10 years now I never really knew the finer points of mouse-usage and like many gamers I just figured "it can't make much difference, my table is fine". I was wrong.
I'm so happy to be home finally Time to get back into the regular flow again.
It's been a wild ride for the last 6 months since I travelled to win ACL Melbourne. 1 month later I won WCS Australia. The day after WCS finished I travelled to Cologne, Germany, to compete at IEM Gamecom. 1 month later I was in Korea competing at IeSF and spent the next 5 weeks training in the PRIME teamhouse and competing in the most recent code A qualifiers. After less than a week back in Sydney from Korea, I... [Read More]
I'm coming home!! ooh yeah! I'm so damn excited to get back to a land where fruit and vegetables are abundant as well as my awesome ladeh waits, she so awesome I think the worst thing about Korea is she can't magically teleport here and so we had to talk over skype to stay in touch, which sucks donkey phallus.
In other news, it's bloody hard to track down all your clothes when you leave a Korean team as everyone tends to wear each others clothes. Artosis assured me it was the same with... [Read More]
